As part of the celebration of World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, an event will take place on March 6, 2026, from 16:00 to 18:30, at the Alcino Miguel Auditorium (ESTiG), organized by the Northern Region of the Portuguese Order of Engineers, in partnership with the European Parliament Liaison Office.

The event aims to mark this date and the four decades of Portugal’s accession to the European Union through a panel of distinguished and relevant speakers addressing the theme, illustrating the evolution of engineering in Portugal before and after accession (1986–2026). The event will feature the participation of Eng. Bento Aires, President of the Order of Engineers – Northern Region; Eng. Humberto Varum, President of the Civil Engineering Specialization College Council; Eng. Cristina Reis, lecturer at UTAD; Eng. José Pimenta Machado, President of APA (Portuguese Environment Agency); Dr. Emídio Sousa, Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities; and Members of the European Parliament (note: confirmation from some of these speakers is still pending).
