Key learning outcomes
The higher professional technician diploma is granted after a 120-credit cycle of studies, which encompasses 3 training components: general and scientific (21 credits), technical (69 credits) and work context (30 credits). In order to complete the course, students must pass all curricular units in the cycle of studies. The higher professional technician in Quality and Treatment of Water and Wastewaters diploma is awarded to the students who demonstrate that they: a) Control the quality of drinking, wastewater and recreational water, in accordance with current legislation in Portugal. b) Monitor water quality for fish farming and other agricultural activities. c) Conduct tests related to water and wastewater, in the laboratory, industrial units and in the field. d) Monitor and interpret the results of customer or supervisor analysis. e) Collaborate in the implementation and execution of experimental tests, taking into account the resolution of problems, in water and wastewater treatment facilities (WTP; WWTP; recreational and leisure facility - swimming pools, spa, river beach; industrial process water). f) Collaborate on design concepts and basic operational techniques for municipal and industrial water treatment units. g) Monitor the quality of aquatic ecosystems and implement preventive/corrective measures. h) Act in accordance with the environmental legislation in force, with regard to analytical control and treatment facilities, and responsibilities of the managing entity/operator. i) Manage the mechanical and electrical maintenance of equipment in water and effluent treatment facilities. j) Produce reports of activities developed in WTP/WWTP.
